Dialect A special variety of language. Tom Sawyer uses lots of slang words and lots of old country talk.
Pseudonym A fictious name used by and author to conceal his or her identity. Mark Twain's (author) real name Samuel Clemmins.
Internal Conflict Psychological struggle with the mind of a literary or dramatic character, the resolution of which creats the plots suspense. Tom and Huck vow to keep the secret about seeing the murder at the graveyard because they don't want to get killed by Injun Joe.
External Conflict Struggle between a person and an outside force. Tom and Becky.
Setting Where a story takes place. Tom Sawyer takes place in a LOT of different places. Jacksons Island, the school, the cave, the graveyard, Toms house.
Figurative Language Simile, metaphor, personification, etc. Tom Sawyer has a lot of this.
Toms and Beckys relationship At the beginning of the story they were dating then they broke up and they tried to make each other jealous and then they got back together because Tom saved her from getting into trouble with the ananomy book.
Tom and Huck at the cemetery Trying to see if they can get warts off by dead cats. They saw a murder between Doctor Robinson, Muff Potter and Injun Joe. Injun Joe blamed it on Muff Potter but it was really Injun Joe. The boys saw the whole thing and didn't want to get killed either.
Tom and Huck vow not to reveal graveyard The boys make a blood vow so they don't say anything about the murder because they don't want to get killed by Injun Joe.
Muff Potter is imprisoned Muff Potter is here because people think he killed Dr. Robinson.
Jacksons Island The boys run away to here and be pirates for awhile.
Their Funeral While the boys are at Jacksons Island people think that they are dead and that they probably drowned so they have this but they boys walk in in the middle of it.
The trial Tom tells the whole truth about Muff Potter
The cave Huck and Tom want to find treasure there. Injun Joe saves it there. By the end it is locked and Injun Joe is trapped there. They get the treasure.
Saving Widow Douglas Huck saved her because Injun Joe was gonna slit her nostrils and cut off her ears but Huck doesn't want anyone to know because he doesn't want to get killed by Injun Joe.

Honesty Theme Tom isn't this at the beginning of the story. He is not like this at the end. Like the trial he tells the whole story correct.
Companionship Tom is with people a lot during his adventures.
