| variation | all the differences in the traits or behaviors of individuals in a species |
| evolution | the gradual change a species over time due to a change in genes. when a population looks different it is because there is a decrease of certaingenes of a species over time |
| scientific theory | an explantion of spme part of the natural world that must include evidence that has been observed and tested |
| homologous structure | a body part with the same basic structure and embryonic origin as that organism though not neccesarily sharing the same function |
| fossil | the preserved remains or traces of living things |
