Psoas Major

lumbar plexus ventral rami L2-4

hip flexion (origin fixed)
trunk flexion (insertion fixed--as in a sit-up)

Assists: lateral trunk flexion (unilateral action), may assist hip ER and ABD

Note: with insertion fixed, tightness contributes to increased lordosis

Psoas Minor

L1 spinal nerve

flexion of trunk and lumbar spine

Iliacus

Femoral nerve (L2-L3)

hip flexion
flexes pelvis on femur

Pectineus

femoral nerve (L2-L3), obturator (accessory branch L3)

hip adduction

Assists: hip flexion

Gracilis

Obturator (L2-L3)

hip adduction
knee flexion
medial rotation of knee

adductor longus

Assists: hip flexion

Adductor Brevis
