| Symbolism | A person, place or object which has a meaning i itself but it suggests other meaning in itself but suggests other meanings as well. Anything that suggests a meaning beyond the obvious. Example: Skull and bones are symbols that often represent death. |
| Allegory | A narrative using symbolic names or characters that carry underlying meaning other than the most apparent. The stories are usually long and are ment to explain or teach a moral idea or lesson to a reader. The ideas are presented in a concrete and imaginative manner and incidents usually represent political, spiritual, or romantic situation. |
