SymbolismA person, place or object which has a meaning i itself but it suggests other meaning in itself but suggests other meanings as well. Anything that suggests a meaning beyond the obvious. Example: Skull and bones are symbols that often represent death.
AllegoryA narrative using symbolic names or characters that carry underlying meaning other than the most apparent. The stories are usually long and are ment to explain or teach a moral idea or lesson to a reader. The ideas are presented in a concrete and imaginative manner and incidents usually represent political, spiritual, or romantic situation.
