What is the Digestive System? A group of organs that work together to break down food.
Which of the following is not part of the Digestive track?
A. Stomach
B. Pharynx
C. Large Intestine
D. Kidneys
D. Kidneys
Which four parts of the Digestive system are not apart of the digestive track? Salivary Gland, Gallbladder,Pancreas, Liver.
What are two kinds of digestion? Mechanical and Chemical digestion.
The kind of digestion that takes place when you chew your food is ________. Mechanical.
When your body breaks down food into nutrients,________ digestion takes place. Chemical.
The three major parts of nutrients are______,fats,proteins. Carbohydrates
What substances cut up the protein chains? Enzymes.
Proteins are made up of smaller molecules call Aminoacids
Premolars______ food. Mash
Incisors and Canines_____food. Shred
Molars_____food. Grind
Saliva changes complex carbohydrates into________ which is easier to digest. Simple Sugars.
What is the function on the Esophagus? It squeezes the mass of food with rhythmic muscle.
What does the Stomach do? It continues Mechanical digestion of your meal by squeezing the food with muscular contractions.
What do the glands in the stomach produce? Enzymes and Acid
Where does Chyme go when it leaves the Stomach? The small intestine
What organ makes fluid that protects the small intestine from the acid in the Chyme? Pancreas
The pancreas produces_______ to regulate blood sugars. Hormones
What does the Villi in the small intestine do ? They are covered with tiny nutrient absorbing cells that absorb nutrients so they can enter the bloodstream.
Which of the following is not a job of the liver?
A. It stores bile.
B. It stores nutrients.
C.it breaks down toxins
D. It breaks up fat.
A. it stores bile
What is the job of the gallbladder? it stores bile produced by the liver.
What does bile do? breaks up large fat droplets into smaller fat droplets.
What is excretion/ the process of removing waste from the blood.
What is the Urinary system? the organs that produce, store, and eliminate urine.
what are two examples of wastes that the urinary system removes from the blood? Carbon dioxide and ammonia
What is the job of the nephrons? to remove waste from the blood.
What is urea? it contains nitrogen and is formed when cells use protein for energy. ( harmful substance)
What does ADH do ? Signals the kidneys to take water from the nephrons. the nephrons return water back to the bloodstream.
what effect does a diuretic have on your body? it causes kidneys to make more urine, which decreases the amount of water in the blood.
How can bacteria get into the bladder and ureters? through the urethra
What can happen if the nephrons are damaged? The fluid levels will come unbalanced; to much or to little.
Why is it important for the Pancreas to release bicarbonate into the small intestine? Bicarbonate neutralizes the acid chyme protecting the lining of the small intestine.
How does the structure of the small intestine help the small intestine absorb nutrients? Villi increase the surface area allowing more nutrients to be absorbed.
What is a kidney stone? When salts and other wastes collect inside the kidneys to form kidney stones.
How would digestion be affected if the liver were damage? Then bile wouldn't be produced, which would cause problems for the rest of the digestive system organs. These problems would include fat in the small intestine remaining the same and not becoming smaller droplets.
Name three places in the digestive tract where chemical and mechanical digestion take place. Mouth, Large Intestine, Small Intestine, Stomach.
Nephrons produce___________.They are____ filters nephrons are located in the _______. Urine, tiny, kidney.
Filtered blood comes out of a______. vein.
Urine is stored in the____. Bladder.
Which has more water...? the blood going into the kidney or the blood leaving it? the blood leaving the kidney has less water because some levels as urine instead of entering the bloodstream.
Why is the stomach important? it produces chyme, stores food, kills bacteria that you swallow with your food.
What does your pancreas protect your small intestine of/ Acids
What part of the digestive system absorbs most nutrients? small intestine
Live does...... -Makes bile to break up fat
-Stores nutrients
-Breaks down toxins like drugs and alcohol
Nutrients that arn't needed right away are stored in the..? Liver
Kidneys filter about how many liters of blood a day...? 2,000 liters.
Sweat.... cools you down
Caffeine... dieretic makes more urine.
