inertia an object's tendency to maintain a constant state of motion. An object in motion will stay in motion
mass the measure of an object's matter
weight the force of gravity on an object
force a push or pull
tension force that is evenly distributed throughout a rope/cable
friction force exerted by a surface as an object moves across it or attempts to move across it.
normal force force that exists whenever two objects are in contact. Force is perpendicular to the surface and always (except for special circumstances) pushes back with the same amount of force.
acceleration a rate of change of velocity
net force sum of the forces that are acting on an object
equilibrium when an object's Fnet is 0.
Called static equilibrium when the object isn't moving, and dynamic equilibrium when the object is moving at a constant velocity.
