Who was Harriet Tubman? Former slave who made her way to freedom and saved over 300 people become free on the underground railroad, from this she was given the nickname "MOSES"
What did Denmark Vassey do? Let a rebellion near Chareleston, SC, but was not successful
What did Gaberiel Prossser do? Orginized a slave rebellion outside of Richmond,VA. 2 men reported him, revolt fell apart, and he was able to get away.
What did Nat Turner do? Led a successful slave revolt in VA witch killed over 60 whites. He was later captured and exuctured.
What are Slave Codes? What are examples of them? Rules that were meant to control the slaves.

What was the Kanas-Nebraska Act? said that territores would decide for themselves whether to have slavery or not
What did the Kanas-Nebraska Act Cause? Much violence in Kanas to make it be known as "Bleeding Kanas"
Who wrote the Kanas- Nebraska Act? Stephen Douglas
Who was Harriet Beecher Stowe and was did she cause? Abloitonist who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin, her book caused Northerners to hate the south and the south to react with anger against Stowe and the North
Who was Fredrick Douglas? Former slave who made many speaches to the North about the horrors of slavery
Who was Willam Lloyd Garrison? Published a newspaper called The Liberator. Newspaper was banned in the south and a reward was put out for Garrison
Who was Sojourner Truth? Former slave who wrote peorty and short stories about her experience as a slave.
What was Sojurner Truth's most famour poem? "Ain't I a women"
Who was Dred Scott? Slave who sued for his freedom. Supreme Court ruled that slaves weren't ciztens and could not sue.
Who was John Brown? Abolitionist who killed 5 people during an election in Kanas, attacked federal aresenal at Harpers Ferry, VA so he could arm the slaves to fight for freedom.
What ran for the Election of 1860? Who won and how? Rep. -Abraham Lincoln

What is a free soiler? Those people in Kanas and Nebraska territories who oposed slavery.
What is a driver? An older slave that plantation owner thought was loyal and who supervised other slaves
What is an Arsenal? An arms storehouse
What is the Underground Railroad? A series of roads, houses, river, crossings, and people who helped southern slaves escape to the North or Canada.
What is the Republican Party? A politcal party formed in 1854 to oppose slavery.
What is a platform? A statement of the principles and policies a political party support.
What is secession?` The act of pulling out of the Union.
What is popular soverienghty? The ablility of the residents of an area to decide upon an issue, such as whether they allowed slavery.
What is Antebellum? the period before the Civil War?
What is Manifest Destiney? The thought that it was the will of God that they United States expanded its border to the Pacific Coast.
What is annex? To add on, such as adding terriotory to an existing town, city, or state.
What is a skirmish? A minor, short-term battle.
What are State's Rights? The belief that a state's interests should take precendence over the intrests of the national government.
What is a Yeoman Farmer? An independent farmer who often lived from season to season.
What is an overseer? A person hired to manage slaves on a day to day basis.
What does Abolition mean? The movement to do away with something, particulary slavery in the 1800s
What is a Free State? A state that did not allow slavery
What is a Slave State? A state that allowed slavery
What is the Missouri Compromise? Legislation passed by Confress in 1820 by which Maine entered the Union as a free state, Missouri enterd the Union as a slave state, and slavery was prohibited North of the Southern border of Missouri.
What is Sectionalism? The belief by the people in a given region or area that their ideas and intrests are better and more important than those of another region or area.
What is the Compromise of 1850?Legislation passed by Congress by which Califronia entered the Union as a free state, slave trading was ended in the District of Columbia Texas gave up its claims to New Mexico in exchange for money, residents of the territtories of New Mexico and Utah would be able to determine whether they wanted slavery, and a stronger Fugitice slave ace was enacted.
