compound sentences a compound sentence two simple sentences put together with a comma before a coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
example I want to watch tv, but i have to finish my homework first.
complex sentences a sentence that combines an independent clause and a dependent clause.
example When i went to the store, it was closed.
