compound sentences | a compound sentence two simple sentences put together with a comma before a coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. |
example | I want to watch tv, but i have to finish my homework first. |
complex sentences | a sentence that combines an independent clause and a dependent clause. |
example | When i went to the store, it was closed. |
