passive voice when you put object in from of sentence. subject should come first S V O
dangling modifier or misplaced modifier A word or phrase apparently modifying an unintended word because of its placement in a sentence
parallel structure the repetition of phrases, clauses, or sentences that have the same grammatical structure
antecedents -things that pronouns refer to
-singular or plural, must agree
-all pronouns must have a clear antecendent that is a noun
Restrictive clauses -necessary to identify a subject, not set off with commas, takes "that" not "which"
Nonrestrictive clauses -additional information, not necessary to identify the subject, set off with commas, takes "which not "that"
