sequence of tenses

main verb is- present, Future, or Perfect than the verb in the purpose clause is present subjunctive
main verb is- imperfect, perfect, pluperfect than the verb in the purpose clause is imperfect subjunctive

Imperfect Subjunctive

take the 2nd principal part and add the ending don't change anything
