What were the peasant's responsibilities?
They had to work several days a week, they had to repair roads, bridges, and fences, they had to ask the lords permission to marry, pay a fee when they inherit their fathers acres, and to use the local mill to grind grain. They also paid fees at Christmas and Easter.
What did the peasants get?
They had the right to farm for themselves, protection from raids or warfare; they could always live on their land (never be forced off of it), and their guaranteed housing and land.
What was the peasant diet?
Black bread, with vegetables such as cabbage, turnips, or onions. Hardly any meat and if they lived near a river, some fish.
