gland

an organ that secretes substances inside or outside the body

mammary glands

lands in female mammals that secrete milk

diaphragm

the sheet of muscle located beneath the lungs

uterus

a hollow, muscular organ in which offspring develop

placental mammal

a mammal that carries its young inside the uterus until development is almost complete

placenta

an organ in the uterus that nourishes the young inside it

gestation

the time during which placental mammals develop inside the uterus

marsupial

a mammal in which the young have a short period of development within the mother's body, followed by a second period of development inside a pouch made of skin and hair

monotreme

a mammal that reproduces by laying eggs

Therapsids

fierce-looking, heavy-set animals that had features of both reptiles and mammals
