Base

Alkaline

Another name for base.

Neutral

pH measures how acidic or basic something is.

Enzyme

A protein that speeds up a reaction.
Examples:
Amylase
Pepsin
Protease
Lactase
Galactase
Lipase

Catalyze

To speed up

Catalyst

Speeds up a chemical reaction. Lowers the activation energy for a chemical reaction.
Ex. Enzymes are catalysts in chemical reactions.

Reactant

Starting material in a chemical reaction.

Ex. Photosynthesis:
C02 + H20 + Sunlight (energy) are reactants in photosynthesis.

Product

End result of a chemical reaction

Ex: Photosynthesis
Oxygen + Glucose are products of photosynthesis.
