Judges soldier-prophets needed to rescue the people of Israel form their enemies. they needed them to lead and guide them.
Jericho the city that God put in the Israelites path- they conquered by marching around it once each day while the priests blew trumpets. On the 7th day the walls tumbled and caused an earthquake.

Cain and Abel the sons of Adam and eve, Showed evil was here to stay because Cain killed Abel because of jealousy. Cain's sacrafice was unacceptable becasue it was not offered out of love..
Noah God told him to build an ark knowing that he would be destroying the earth to recreate it so he brought two of every kind of animal and his family along with him. 600 years old and wise. He and hsi family were the only righteous people left on earth.

maker had a son named Isaac who god told to sacrifice he was a faithful man and did so by obeying god spared the life of his son Isaac had a name change from Abram he started the ages of the patriarchs
Sarah the wife of Abraham was a barren woman had a name change from Sarai
Lot the nephew of Abraham whose city was corrupt he and his family was saved by god his wife turned into a pillar of sand because he looked back

Aaron the brother of Moses was a spokesman and companion for him.
Miriam the woman who began to sing a song of praise to the Lord after the crossed the sea
Joshua was Moses successor, he was a very faithful man to God and he was also one of the spies that went into Jericho
Caleb one of the spies that also had much faith in the Lord
Rahab a harlot that Joshua stayed with when they were spying, she was saved when Jericho was destroyed, she is one of the ancestors of Jesus
Deborah one of the judges that tried to show the Israelites that God is the one who wins all the battles for them
Gideon one of the judges that gave the Israelites advice on how to live a holy life
Samson one of the judges along that ruled Israel along with Samuel
Saul the first king that was chosen he wanted to lead and not follow God, he was greedy and lustful and them removed from the throne
Samuel the last of the judges, first of the prophets he was the leader of Israel for a long time
David the second king that was chosen to replace Saul he was not the typical young king he was unexpected, he was a shepherd boy

The fall of manexplains how evil came into the world and original sin, explains why painful childbirth, hard work & marred relationship with each other and God. Explains temptation. Adam and eve sinned while they were in the garden because the snake Nahash tempted them to eat a piece of fruit from the tree of knowledge. God then found confronted them about what happened and they played the blame game, Adam blamed his wife Eve, Eve blamed the snake Nahash, god then punished all three and kicked Adam and eve out of the garden of Eden
Marriage covenant God created man and saw that man was lonely so he then created a companion for man, women. The love between a man and a woman is meant to be life giving often this refers to having a family
Stewards of creation God calls us to be stewards and stewardess of creation by taking care of the land that we live on even though it isn't ours.Be fertile and multiply.
God creates order out of chaos before the creation the earth was a formless wasteland & darkness covered the abyss. After creation light=good, organized structure with inhabitants to fill it 2 sets of 3
Gods covenant with noah after God had flooded the earth he made a covenant with Noah that he would never flood the earth again, this covenant would be proved because God said that every time it would rain he would send a rainbow to remind us of this covenant
Symbolic numbers: 40 symbolizes a long time, a period of trial and repentence

Tower of babelthe people on earth wanted to build a tower that would reach the heavens so they did not have to rely on God anymore to get to heaven god did not like this and punished all the people and he made it so every single one of the people were speaking a different language and could not understand what they were saying. Connection to Pentecost and speaking in multiple tongues
Sodom and Gomorrah they were the two cities filled with sin. Abraham intercedes for the innocent of Sodom (Lot). 1st time question of justice and fairness discussed. Abraham showed courage to bargain with God.
Covenant with Abraham Innumerable descendants - Issac and then the Israelites, Land (fulfilled in Moses), Blessing
Binding of Isaacwhen Isaac was a young boy his father was told by god to prove his loyalty to him and sacrifice his own son (a common practice for surrounding cultures) , being the only son Abraham had it was a difficult decision but Abraham did so, God saw that Abraham was a good and faithful servant so he sent an angel to stop the sacrifice. Issac as a precursor to Christ.
Fight for the birth right Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for stew out of impulsiveness, later on Jacob gets a blessing from Issac tricking his father into thinking that he was Esau
Be fruitful and multiply God told Abraham to be fruitful and multiply and Abraham did so creating the many tribes of Israel. New life, new beginning, marriage covenent.
The call of moses the burning bush was a theophany
Reluctant prophets Moses was reluctant to go deliver the people out of Egypt because he did not think he was worthy enough he had a speech impediment and did not want pharaoh to recognize him
10 plagues the plagues condemned each of the Egyptian gods. Came is sets of 3 then plus 1

Sinai God gave Moses the ten commandments on the mountain of Sinai, this mountain is holy and means strength. A covenent (2 way agreement) is made - God promises to be God of people and the people promise to follow God's law.
10 commandments center of the Hebrew/Israelite religion, the people promise to follow gods laws. Summed up as love God and love your neighbor. What man knows in his soul to be right or wrong.
Passover when the lambs blood was poured on the doors of the faithful people in Egypt so that they could be saved. The angel of death would then pass over the houses and the houses that did not have the unblemished lamb's blood would have their first born sons killed. Lamb as a type of Christ.
Leviticus a manual or instruction book of holiness for the priests/ Levites for holiness

Deuteronomy meaning second law, a series of speeches from Moses, Israel is becoming a nation, ends with the death of Moses
Tabernacle meaning heaven on earth, a portable tent that contained the ark of the covenant with the ten commandments
Exodus meaning to go out, when Moses delivered the Israelites out of Egypt
Exodus Numbers patternthe Israelites would have a good relationship with God and something would then go wrong and they would turn away from god, bad things would begin to happen and they would pray for the help of God, God would then deliver them and save them and they would continue with the good relationship with God and the cycle would repeat.

Israelite warfare Palestine was the center of the main roads going from Mesopotamia and Egypt, so war was common. The Israelites believed that god fought the battles for them while the other cities believed that their gods fought the battles with them. After they got a king they trusted in the king instead of God.
Appointing a king Samuel was getting old and they wanted someone good to govern the nation like everyone else. Samuel appointed them Saul but told them that they would be slaves to the king , Saul was a bad king and lost his kingship so David became the new king of Israel
Anointing To put oil on something as a sign of consecration. Only priests, kings and Prophets were anointed in those days.
Saul's mistakesSaul's first mistake- Saul wanted to lead and not follow God; his consequence was that the army then left him. He offered a sacrifice alone because he wanted something from God.

Saul's second mistake- Saul was greedy and lustful. He kept the good things after destroying the village. He lied to Samuel. His consequence was that his kingship was taken away
