adjacent sides

two sides that are touching each other, sharing a common vertex

hypotenuse

the longest side in a right triangle; always opposite the right angle

legs

the two short sides on a right triangle; always adjacent to the right angle

opposite side

the side that is not touching, and not sharing a common vertex

Pythagorean Theorem

the theorem that says that in any right triangle, a2 + b2 = c2 if a and b represent the lengths of the two legs, and c represents the length of the hypotenuse

right triangle

a triangle with one right angle

square root

a number times itself that gives the number inside the bracket; the opposite of squaring a number
