protagnist | the main character, one most central to the action of the story |
antagonist | the person or thing working against the hero of a work |
dialogue | conversations carried on between characters in a story; it can provide clues about the characters, advance the plot or affect the mood |
setting | time and/or place of the action of the story |
monologue | a speech by one character on the stage also called a soliloquy |
conflict | triggers the action of the plot--problem or struggle |
