demography study of human populations
age structure the distribution of individuals among different ages and genders in a population
survivorship The probability a given individual in a population will live to a particular age
fertility rate the average number of children born to a woman during her lifetime (often given as babies per 1,000 women)
migration movement from one country or region to another
immigration the movement of individuals into a population or area
emigration the movement of individuals out of a population or area
life expectancy the average number of years an individual is predicted to live, given current social, economic, and medical conditions.
infant mortality the rate of death within the first year of life
demographic transition a model that shows how economic and social changes affect a population's birth, death and growth rates
developed country a country with higher than average income, slow population growth and a diverse industrial economy
developing country a country with lower average income, fast population growth and a simple and agricultural-based economy
