Database

a collection of data or information which is held together in an organised or logical way

Table

allows you to see all of the records stored in the database and can store many records

Record

all of the data or information about one person or one thing

Field

one piece of data or information about a person or thing

Data Types

a description on a field that determines what kind of information you can enter in the field

Primary Key

uniquely identifies each record in the table

Validation

an automatic computer check to ensure that the data entered is sensible and reasonable

Verification

performed to ensure that the data entered exactly matches the original source

Flat File Database

all of your data is stored in one large table.

Relational Database

the data is split up into sensible groups and a separate table is made for each group

Query

Searching the database to find specific information

Report

present the results of a query in a neat, well laid out format
