Why does WWI become a stalemate? In other words, why is little land gained but so many lives lost?Because in trench warfare, the troops in the trenches don't advance anywhere. They use machine guns to mow down enemy lines.
Why did the Russians pull out of the war in 1917?Because soldiers left the front to participate in the Russian Revolution. They wanted to take down the Russian monarchy.
Why is the Battle of Verdun an important battle? What does it represent?It was the largest battle in the whole war. It came to represent all the horrors of WWI.
Why is the Battle of the Somme a significant battle?Because it was one of the bloodiest battles in history.
Why was France so bent on punishing Germany?Because Germany took the territories of Alsace and Lorraine from France in the time of Bismarck, and France felt like the land belonged to them.
