camera angle | the point of view of the camera |
long shot | a camera shot taken from a distance which shows the full subject |
medium shot | a camera shot where subjects are seen from the waist up |
medium close-up | a camera shot where subjects are seen from the chest up |
close-up | a camera shot where the subject takes up at least 80% of the screen; it usually shows a person's head and shoulders |
extreme close-up | a camera shot that shows only one part or portion of an object, and the image fills 100% of the frame |
low angle | a camera angle where the camera is below the subject, often making the subject appear important and powerful |
high angle | a camera angle where the camera is above the subject, often making things look small and pathetic or weak and powerless |
bird's eye view | a camera angle where the camera is directly above the subject, such as from the view point of a bird; this can make the viewer feel god-like |
oblique angle | A camera angle where the camera is tilted sideways on a horizontal line; this can add tension to a static frame, or a sinister/distorted view of a character |
pan | when a stationary camera moves left or right |
tilt | when a stationary camera moves up and down |
eye level | a camera angle at a natural level, as if where your eyes would be |
point-of-view | a camera shot where the camera is placed approximately where the character's eyes would be, showing what the character would see as if you were experiencing an event with the character |
