Position Number The number of the position that a number is in within a sequence. Algebraic Expression A mathematical phrase which can contain numbers, operators (add, subtract, multiply, divide), and at least one variable (like x, y) to represent operations. Term The numbers and variables in an algebraic expression that are separated by a "+" or "-" sign. Nth Term A generalization that is used to describe any given number in a sequence; the position in the sequence of numbers. Constant Rate of Change Change between consecutive totals (y=mx+b); also called the slope (m) and y-intercept (0,b). Consecutive One after another; not skip counting (ex. 1, 2, 3, 4, ...). Evaluate A term used in algebra that means to find the numeric value of a variable; to solve a problem. Arithmetic Sequence What the sequence is called after new terms are added. Sequence A pattern of numbers that may be described by an algebraic expression.
