Drug Abuse The intentional improper of unsafe use of a drug.
Illegal drugs can have permanaent effects on the brain and the body, you can becom addicted, you can catch infections diseases from needles, you can overdose, you can lose the ability to make responsible decisions about other risky behavior. How can drugs affect your body?
Teens' brains are still developing. Why are teens addicted to drugs more than adults?
To experiment, escape boredom or depression, risk-taking behavior, peer pressure, glamorization of drugs by the media. Why do people begin using drugs?
Stimulants. Drugs that tempoorarily increase a person's eergy and alertness.
Depressants. Drgus that cause relaxation and sleepiness.
Opiates. A group of highly addictive drugs derived from the poppy plant that are used as pain relievers, anesthetics, and sedatives.
Hallucinogens. Drugs that distort perceptions and cause a person to see or hear things that are not real.
Amphetamines. A group of stimulaants produced in laboratories. They are highly addictive. It can cause severe damage to the body and brain.
Cocaine and Crack. Stimulants derived from the coca plant. They are also highly addictive. Overdoes of these drugs can be very dangerous.
