Poetry a type of literature that is written in meter
Meter a pattern of accented and unaccented syllables in lines of poetry
Read a poem three times before answering questions a. Read a poem three times:
b. First Reading try to get a sense of what the poet is feeling; what voice he is using; what form; what punctuation
c. Second Reading concentrate on unknown words and confusing phrases; try to figure out comparisons (dictionary)
d. Third Reading look for the most important line(s); what is the main idea? read to analyze what the poet actually did
