Definitions

Fundamental Counting Principle using multiplication, instead of a tree diagram, to find the number of possible outcomes in a sample space.
Probability the chance of an event happening.
Experimental Probability This is based on what ACTUALLY occurred during your trial.
Sample Space The set of all possible outcomes in a probability experiment.
Simple Event one outcome or a collection of outcomes.
Theoretical Probability This is based on what SHOULD happen when conducting a probability experiment.
Tree Diagram This can be used to display a sample space.
Compound Events This consists of two or more simple events.
Dependent Event If the outcome of one event affects the outcome of a second event.
Independent Event When the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of other events.
