Form | An objects shape and structure, either in 2 or 3 dimensions |
Composition | How an artist organizes (composes) forms in an artwork either by placing shapes on a flat surface or arranging forms in space. |
Material | The arts medium (pigments, clay, marble, etc.) |
Technique | Processes artists employ such as applying paint to canvas with a brush, and the distinctive personal ways they handle materials |
Line | The path of a point moving in space; an invisible line of site, or a visual axis |
Hue | The property giving the color its name |
Value/Tonality | The degree of lightness or darkness |
Intensity/Saturation | The purity of a color |
Space | The bounded or boundless container of objects |
Mass | The bulk, density, and weight of matter in space |
Volume | The space that mass organizes, divides, or encloses |
Perspective | One of the most important pictorial devices for organizing forms in space, creating an illusion of depth or space on a two dimensional surface |
Foreshortening | A kind of perspective that produces the illusion that one part of the body is further away than another even though all forms are on the same surface |
Proportion | The relationships (in terms of size) of the parts of persons, buildings, or objects |
Wood and Stone | Two types of material that could be used in creating subtractive sculpture |
Subtractive Sculpture | Sculpture made by removing material from a larger block or form |
Additive Sculpture | Sculptural form produced by combining or building up material from a core or armatur |
Clay and Bronze | Two types of material that could be used in creating additive sculpture |
High Relief | Sculpture in which the images project boldly |
Low Relief | Sculpture in which the projection is slight |
Plan | Shows the placement of a structure's masses and therefore the spaces they bound and enclose |
Section | Depicts the placement of the masses as if the building were cut through along a plane |
Elevation | A head on view of an external or internal wall |
