### sparklines

a tiny chart that can be used to show trend patterns

### trend

a mathematical prediction of future valves based on the relationship between existing valves

### forecast function

uses a "linear trend" formula to calcuate future valves

### growth function

predicts future valves using exponential growth, y=b*m^x

### data table

a method of performing what if analysis, involving a column (a possibly a row) of variables and a formula that excel solves overand over, using each of the variables. the result is a table of answers.

### input cell

a cell in a data table to which your formula refers. excel copies a variable in tothe cell, solves the formula, and then goes on to the next variable to create a serious of answers.

### solver

a method of performing what if analysis in which the result is known, but more than a single varable is unknown. also there may be additional constraints upon the final results

### what if analysis

excel term for a serious of tools that perform calculations involves one or more variables

### range name

the name given to a set of adjacent cells. you might name a range in order to make it more convenient to refence that range in a formula or a function, such as VLOOKUP

### table

a serious of column and rows used to organize data. each column typically represents a different field, and each row represents and entire record

### data base

an organized collection of records

### field

a single part of a record, such as "phone number" multiple related fields, such as one emplyees name, address, phone number, etc. make up one record

### pivot chart

a chart based on pivot table data

### pivot table

a rearangeable table that allows you to analyze complex data in a variety of ways

### report filter

a field from the data that you can use to filter or limit the data displayed within the pivot table
