| selective | a school system that is careful about choosing the best students |

| vocational | teaching or relating to the skills you need to do a particular job |
| prospect | the possibility that something will happen |
| contradictory | two statements, beliefs etc that are contradictory are different and therefore cannot both be true or correct |
| abolish | to officially end a law, system etc, especially one that has existed for a long time |
| dump | to get rid of something that you do not want |
| utopia | an imaginary perfect world where everyone is happy |
| grade | a mark that a student is given for their work or for an examination |
| honour | something given to someone to show how much people respect them for what they have achieved |
| credit | a successfully completed part of a course at a university or college |
| term | a fixed period of time during which something happens (e.g. school~) |
| bully | to threaten to hurt someone or frighten them, especially someone smaller or weaker |
| impression | the opinion or feeling you have about someone or something because of the way they seem |
| skip | to not do something that you usually do or that you should do (e.g. a lesson) |
| certificate | an official paper stating that you have completed a course of study or passed an examination |
| gain qualification | to have passed an examination or course to show you have a particular level of skill or knowledge in a subject |

| take the easy way out | to end a situation in a way that seems easy, but is not the best or most sensible way |
| fool oneself | to try to make yourself believe something that you know is not really true |
| further education | education for adults after leaving school, that is not at a university |
| enrol | to officially arrange to join a school, university, or course, or to arrange for someone else to do this |
| expel | to officially force someone to leave a school or organization |
| schedule | a plan of what someone is going to do and when they are going to do it (e.g. of a course) |
| enthusiasm | a strong feeling of interest and enjoyment about something and an eagerness to be involved in it |
| assessment | a process in which you make a judgment about a person or situation, or the judgement you make (e.g. of a student) |
| punishment | omething that is done in order to punish someone, or the act of punishing them |
| dedicated | working very hard at what they do because they care a lot about it |
