The third reading
always from one of the four Gospels of the New Testament, read from the "Book of the Gospels"
a talk given by the priest or deacon that helps us to understand the readings and to grow as faithful followers of Jesus
after the homily, we state what we believe by saying this and we then remember the needs of all God's People by praying the "Prayer of the Faithful"
Liturgy of the Eucharist
the part of the Mass in which the Death and Resurrection of Christ are made present again; our gifts of bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ, which we receive in Holy Communion
the part of the Eucharistic Prayer when, by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the words and actions of the priest, the bread and wine become the Body and blood of Christ
What happens during the Eucharistic Prayer?
1. We honor God for all the wonderful things he has done for us.
2. The Consecration: by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the words and actions of the priest, the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. This is called the "Real Presence".
3. We proclaim the mystery of faith by calling to mind the Death, Resurrection, and coming of the risen Lord in glory
4. We pray that the Holy Spirit will unite the Church in Heaven and on earth.
