| contraception (birth control) | a device or method which prevents the fertilization of an ovum by a sperm during sexual intercourse |
| Cowper's Glands | two tiny glands located below the prostate gland which release fluid before ejaculation to neutralize lining of urethra and provide proper pH balance for sperm. fluid can contain sperm. |
| diaphram | a rubber disx inserted into the vagina and over the cervix before intercourse to prevent sperm from entering the uterus |
| douche | a method of female hygiene in which a stream of water or other liquid solution is directed into the vagina |
| egg (ovum) | female reproductive cell produced in and released from the ovaries |
| ejaculation | the discharge of semen from the penis; occurs during male orgasm |
| embryo | a developing organism; during the first eight weeks of development in the uterus, a human being is called an embryo |
| erection | swelling and rising of the penis which occurs when the veins in the penis fill with blood |
| fallopian tubes | two 4-5" tubes in the female. the passageway is about as wide as a pencil head and is lined by tiny hair like cilia which move to cause the ovum to move from the outer part of the tube to the uterus |
| fertilization | (conception) a sperm entering an ovum and combining the chromosomes |
