step migration | to a distant desitnation that occurs in stages |
interveining opportunity | the presistance of a nearer opportunity that greatly dimisshes the attractivness of sites farher away |
kinship links | types of push or pull factors that influence a migration decision to go where family/friends found sucess |
imigration waves | swells in migration from one orgin to the same destination |
global scale | interaction occuring at the scale of the world in a global setting |
explorers | a person examining a region that is unknown |
colonization | a physical process where the colinizer takes over another place putting its own government in charge and ethier moving its own people into the place or bring indentured outsiders to gain control of the people and land |
regional scale | interadtion occuring within a region, in a regional setting |
islands of devolopment | place bulit up by a government or corporation to attract foregn investment and which has realatively high concentration of paying jobs and infrastructure |

international refugees | have crossed one or more international borders during their move and encamped in a country other than thier own |

immigration laws | laws and regulations of a state designed specifically to control immigration into that state |
quotas | established limits by governments on the number of immigrants who can enter a country each year |
selective immigration | in which individual with certain backgrounds (criminal records, poor health, subversive activites, ect.) are bnned from entering |
