Name 6 ways to describe luster dull, shiny, transparent, translucent, metallic, vitreous
Dull a non-reflective surface
Shiny a surface that reflects light
Transparent you can see through the mineral
Tranlucent light goes through the mineral but you can't see through it
Metallic Very shiny. Looks like metal.
Vitreous Looks like glass
How do you test a mineral's hardness? By scratching a mineral. A mineral can only be scratched by a mineral that's harder than it
What's the difference between cleavage and fracture Cleavage - breaks with clean and flat surface
Fracture - breaks with rough uneven surface
