Distributive Property

a(b + c) = ab + ac; a number outside the parentheses can be multiplied to each term within the parentheses

Intercepts

the points at which the graph crosses through or touches the x or y axis

Interior Angle

the angle between adjacent sides of a figure

Irrational Number

A number whose decimal form does not end or repeat. These numbers cannot be written in the form a/b, where a and b are integers (b cannot be zero).

Like Terms

Terms that have the same variable raised to the same power

Linear Equation

An equation that has one or two variables raised to the power of 1 and when graphed makes a straight line.

Slope

a measure of the steepness of a line, found using rise over run

Rational Number

A number that can be written as a fraction a/b, where b does not equal 0

Vertical Angles

a pair of opposite, congruent angles formed by intersecting lines

Volume

a measure of the amount of 3-dimensional space occupied by an object

Slope Formula

m = (y₂- y₁) / (x₂- x₁)

Algebraic Equation

a statement of equality between two algebraic expressions

Algebraic Fraction

a fraction with one or more variables in the numerator or denominator

Inequality

A statement that compares two quantities using <, >, ≤,≥, or ≠

Ratio

a comparison of two numbers by division

Proportion

an equation stating that two fractions are equal
