Socialism | The government owns many of the larger industries. The government provides the people with education, healthcare and welfare while allowing some economic choices Example Sweden |
Communism | The government owns all businesses and farms while providing the citizens with healthcare and education Example Cuba |
Dictatorship | The country is ruled by a leader who has not been elected and uses force to stay in power. In cases of a military dictatorship, the military is in power. Either way there is little attention to individual rights Example Venezuela |
Totalitarian | The country is ruled by a single political party. People are forced to do what the government wants and may be prevented from leaving the country.Citizens are allowed and encouraged to vote but only for the government's chosen candidates Example North Korea (Also is Communist) |
Theocracy | A form of government in which the rulers say they are ruling on behalf of a set of religious ideas Example Iran |

Republic | This government is led by the representatives of the voters, each of which is chosen for a set period of time Examples - U.S. Germany |
Anarchy | This is a situation where there is no government, which often happens after a civil war when the government is destroyed and rival groups are fighting to take its place Example Somalia |
Revolutionary | The existing structure is overthrown by a new group. The new group can be very small or very large. After a period of time this becomes one of the other types of government, unless there is another "coup" in uprising Example Libya |
Oligarchy | A form of government that consists of rule by an elite group who rule in their own interests, especially the accumulation of wealth and privilege. Only certain members of society have a valid voice in government Example Saudi Arabia - especially Saudi family |

Fascism | Government that puts the nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social control, and forcible suppression of opposition - the people can own property and businesses |
