horizontal axis | also sometimes called the X axis and it is where the categories are plotted |
legend | a key that identifies each of the data series in a chart |

vertical axis | also sometimes called the Y axis and it is where the values from each category are plotted |
percentage | a calculation of proportion, it tells you how much one value represents when compared with a total |
line chart | connect points of data, making them effective for showing changes over time, such as trends |
column chart | the default chart type, compare individual or sets of values. the bars correspond to the value in the worksheet, relative to other values in the chart |
pie chart | show the relationship of each value in a single series to the total for the series....the portions represent percentages |
bar chart | the columns are turned in the side for this type of chart...from left to right |
area chart | like a "filled-in" line chart, use this chart to track changes over time |
scatter chart | also called XY charts, represent data points as dots...the dots for each series appear in a different color. any overall direction to the position of the dots reveals a trend |
calculate percentage | divide the individual value by the total value |
