Improved Create Flashcards Page

Making flashcards on Quizlet just got easier. We recently launched several changes to the “Enter your flash cards” section of the Create Flashcards page.

The biggest change is new language drop down buttons. Make sure to select the correct language—this will ensure that other Quizlet features, like audio, will work.

Improved Symbols and Accents

We’ve also improved the process for entering symbols and accents. For example, if you want to create a set in Spanish, make sure the drop down button is on Spanish.

All of the symbols and accents commonly used for Spanish will appear on the right hand side of the screen.

This also works for “languages” like Chemistry or Math/Symbols. If you select “Chemistry” from the drop down you will see the following symbols and accents:

If you see a symbol or accent that is missing let us know and we can add it to the list.

Better Import Data Interface

Want to import data from another source? Click on the “Import Data” button and the interface opens up within the Create Flashcards page.

Make sure to click the “Import” button once you are done.

Updated Flip Terms and Definitions

You can still flip terms and definitions with one click. Now use the double-sided arrow in the middle of the page to flip back and forth.

  1. Kim:

    sounds great! I’m going to make some flashcards right now actually.

  2. MP:

    Nicceeeeee!! i’m this is awesome!

  3. heather:

    coolio…keep it up quizlet

  4. Anonymous:

    I can not add to my flashcard set with the import card option. When saved they don’t save..only what was originally there.

  5. Nick West:

    I can no longer copy and past information with the import button. It says that I have to have at least two terms and definitions, yet it recognizes that they are in the correct order in the boxes. I do not like this new way.

  6. EG:

    When I try to import cards and I choose a “custom” way to recognize terms from definitions, the “import” button goes away.

  7. Phil Freo:

    @Nick — looking into this bug now.

  8. MR:

    I am having the same problem as 5. NW & 6. EG. Can you please go back to the original this is not workong for cut & paste.

  9. HM:

    I ‘m a plus member who can’t upload images anymore – the “add text” and “search images” buttons work, but the “upload image” button doesn’t even highlight when I mouse over it. It’s completely dead.

    Tried upgrading flash and unblocking ads already. Is there a way to fix the bug?

  10. Jeff Chan:

    @HM — Very sorry about this! We *just now* made a fix and it should work now. Please try it again, and again, we apologize.

  11. Jeff Chan:

    @Anonymous, Nick West, EG, & MR,

    We’re very sorry about Import not working properly. We’ve just fixed it and the “Import” button should be working. Please try again. Let us know if you’re still experiencing issues. Again, we apologize.

  12. Mme Thomas:

    nice new features and great listening and problem solving!

  13. sml:

    Is the Show Symbols/Accents option will not be available any more?

  14. HM:

    @Jeff Chan: Awesome, it’s working now. Thanks for the heads up and the fix!

  15. Jeff Chan:

    @sml,

    To show symbols/accents, simply select the language you’re inputting and the relevant symbols/accents should show up. Please let us know if there are symbols/accents you’d like to add but don’t appear in the box.

  16. habitr:

    I am very sorry about this change. I am studying phonetics of Norwegian language, so I need custom symbols for transcription. I made some custom symbols like ? ? ? ? ? ?
    And now I can not view these special symbols, I will need to copy-paste from word. Can you please leave the opportunity to create custom sets of symbols. Otherwise great service! Thank you for your hard work.

  17. N:

    Why is the website so slow lately? Is this just me?

  18. bunkie:

    the print function is not working it is only printing the first page of flashcards i need 200 not 5

  19. Andrew Sutherland:

    Hey bunkie — could you write in through the Feedback button on the page you’re having trouble with? That will help us diagnose the issue. -Andrew

  20. Sean:

    This is TERRIBLE. Whoever decided to get rid of custom symbols just wasn’t thinking clearly. I study Russian and now I can no longer insert my custom vowels with the appropriate accent mark. I have resorted to copy pasting outside of Quizlet, which is a major step BACKWARDS. This is supposed to be an improvement? I always like this site because things were easy to customize.

  21. Sean:

    P.S. The Russian “symbols/accents” is actually just the Russian keyboard, with no special symbols or accents on it whatsoever.

  22. Andrew:

    @Sean It was my idea :) luckily, we’re also open to improvements. I’ve just added the accent marks on russian vowels to the russian keyboard.

  23. Daniella:

    Yay! Thanks!

  24. thumpaholden:

    Great job, people. The changes have all worked very seamlessly for me. Today, I’m really impressed by the audio stuff. I wonder what I’ll be thinking “hey, that’s cool” about tomorrow!

  25. Soccerdude246810:

    finally somebody does what i didnt tell them to do

  26. shudaoxin:

    Wow, no more custom symbols? Seriously, that sucks! Its good that there are default sets for each language, but I had some letters and symbols that kept repeating and it was easy to just paste via the custom symbols, now I always have to switch keyboard layouts or copy and paste it over.. such a pain! Please reimplement it if possible.

  27. Helen:

    This is a big step backwards in convenience for me. I am learning Akkadian and I need a specific set of characters which is not available on the drop-down menu and I can’t type directly from my keyboard. Please bring back the custom symbols!

  28. Andrew Sutherland:

    Hi Helen, we’re sorry about that. If you provide a list of accent marks that would be useful for Akkadian we can add them to the list (along with Akkadian itself)! Also, if a particular font is best, we can make sure Akkadian text shows in that font by default.

  29. Sam:

    Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate all of the work you do to improve quizlet!

  30. Helen:

    Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply. The characters I need are these: ? ? ? ? â ê î û š ? ? ?, with their uppercase versions, and subscripted numbers from 1-10. They should be fine in any unicode font.

    I’m sure this new feature will be useful for a lot of people, but I definitely think you should bring back the option to have custom symbols as well. It is really useful for people like me using quizlet for slightly eccentric purposes, and customisability has always been one of this site’s greatest assets!

  31. Helen:

    oops… the characters which didn’t show up above are a e i and u with macrons above them, h with a little u-like line under it, and s and t with dots underneath.

  32. Andrew:

    Hi Helen,

    Thanks for the info. I’ve added Akkadian and those language marks! If you need more, let us know (sending through the Feedback link is usually better)

    -andrew

  33. Redshirt Antilles:

    Oh man, if I had known that Quizlet supported superscripts / subscripts for Chemistry, that would have made studying ions so much easier. Keep up the good work!

  34. Sean:

    You haven’t added all the necessary accent marks for Russian. The following still need to be added: ?? ?? ??. Do not confuse ? and ? — they are distinct characters. Please fix this so I can make my flashcards. So far you have added only half of the necessary symbols.

  35. Sean:

    I sent another feedback message because the characters don’t seem to show up here.

  36. spaninterp:

    I created a set of flashcards but then discovered an additional bunch of words I’d like to add to the same list, but in alphabetical order — i.e., not tacked on to the end of the list. Dragging each word up to the right spot gets old fast. There’s a button for deleting a row, but PLEASE how can I insert a row in the middle of my list. The insert row function is just for inserting a row at the end of the list!! Thanks.

  37. Sean:

    Thank you for adding the Russian symbols/accents! Satisfied quizleteer.

  38. Jub3r7:

    This is really cool! I’ve always studied Latin without the accents, but I don’t have to with the new update.

    It seems like a lot of the complaints are due to the removal of the custom symbol insertion; wouldn’t it be possible to have that as well as the new language selection feature?

  39. Nasuk:

    Its Awesomely greatttttttttttt!

  40. Neal:

    Hey Andrew/Quizlet,

    It might be possible to do this with Google’s Virtual Keyboard API – maybe with something like this:

    google.load(“elements”, “1″, {packages: “keyboard”});

    var kbd;

    function onLoad() {
    var content = document.getElementById(‘content’);
    // Create the HTML for out text area
    content.innerHTML = ‘(Scroll down) ‘ +
    ‘You can click the buttons below to choose a ‘ +
    ‘keyboard layout.’ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ‘ ‘ +
    ”;

    kbd = new google.elements.keyboard.Keyboard(
    [google.elements.keyboard.LayoutCode.RUSSIAN],
    ['t1']);
    }

    google.setOnLoadCallback(onLoad);

  42. Andrew:

    @Neal thanks, but it appears Google is shutting down their Virtual Keyboard API sometime soon. It’s possible we’ll do something like this, just not sure yet.

    @Jub3r7 I think we’ve resolved all the issues people have had by just adding the symbols they requested. This has the added benefit of automatically helping people who never write in.

  43. Scrabblemaster:

    cool, long needed

  44. snackwiseman:

    andrew do you think ur gonna make new study games soon?

  45. oliver:

    Is there anyway to make the text aligned to the left, instead of aligned at the center?

  46. Andrew Sutherland:

    @oliver no, unfortunately

    @snackwiseman stay tuned, we’re working on something :)

  47. Elaine:

    You seemed to forget the pie symbol in the math symbols section

  48. HarryPotterRocks:

    and spanish uses ü too, as in pingüino (penguin)

  49. HarryPotterRocks:

    And i really don’t feel like going to German and using the ü from ”there”…

  50. HarryPotterRocks:

    sorry i meant to put italics but can’t figure out how. i used wikipedia’s way

  51. Nikki:

    Please bring back custom symbols! I use the math and chemistry symbols interchangeably!

  52. Sanpaku:

    I am happy to see the improvements made with quizlet. Especially the import/export of data. Now if you can take a look see at text colouring – would be great!

    Keep up the good work!

  53. Sharla:

    I am a teacher and a mom. I learned about quizlet through my own children. Their teachers use it and have them use it to study for tests at home. They love it! I am so thankful for this tool as a teacher as well! I am in the process of making vocab cards for the whole year for my Math students to be able to study at home and in class. I have done two sections of the book. I am typing them in one by one….Is there a better way to do this?
    AGAIN, thank you for this amazing website!!! I have been telling every teacher I know about it.

  54. silvercat:

    i do spanish flashcard sets, and now that there are good symbols, i can do them correctly!!!

  55. vinny:

    Thats great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. Mintleaf:

    nice!!!

  57. Sally:

    Where are the chapters that I need? they simple are not here.

  58. lambertsz:

    Hi Andrew,
    I still miss the option to Bold text, use Italics or color text. It would really enhance the flashcards, especially for the ones who are strongly visually oriented. I followed your suggestion to CAPITALIZE words but it’s like they say in Brasil: feijo! Ugly.
    Really hope one day that I can really convince you of the benefits of some richer textediting options for a supertool like Quizlet: would turn it into an almost awsome program
    Willem

  59. Bri:

    quizlet has been a lifesaver for me since I was in high school and now that I am in college it honestly just keeps getting better and better! keep up the good work!

  60. i dont know u tell me:

    making some right now!!

  61. megster:

    i really love quizlet and ever since i have been doing it i have gotten all A’s thx quizlet

  62. egsa:

    In Math/Symbols, the parallel symbol is missing. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_%28geometry%29#Symbol)

  63. egsa:

    as well as the not parallel symbol too. (on same link)

  64. Moe:

    I created some flashcards by importing info. I can access them on quizlet. But when I try to find them through flashcard+ to download, it says that they don’t exist. What am I missing. I have logged out of quizlet and still can find them. I really need to be able to put these on flashcard plus. Please help..

  65. ria:

    PLSS MAKE IT SO WE CAN ADD ROWS ( A NEW FLASHCARD) TO THE MIDDLE OF OUR SET!!! instead of two the end tehn dragging it up!!!

  66. acrula:

    Adding new words to long glossary – (1) can a line be inserted in the middle of the set? (2) can the set be arranged in alphabetical order? Thanks.

  67. sophia:

    You can alphabetize by clicking “export.” Adding into the middle of a set is a bit harder. You’ll have to add to the bottom and then move it up.

  68. danmax:

    Is the “import data” feature for Quizlet Plus only?

    Nothing happens when I click the button. I’ve tried it in Firefox and IE.

    Thanks.

  69. sophia:

    Import is a regular feature on Quizlet. Can you write into support so that we can help you troubleshoot this issue?
