Quizlet’s new office

The Quizlet team recently moved into a new office in San Francisco. Check it out!

Our “lobby” complete with yellow couch and huge Quizlet banner.

The two screens show real-time Quizlet usage stats from all over the world. Here’s a sneak peek at one of the ways we visualize Quizlet traffic.

A full-length view of the office. (Note the standing desks in the distance.)

Vintage street sign appropriately named.

We work mainly on Apple computers but also have PCs for testing.

Whiteboards are very important for spontaneous brainstorming.

14 foot high retractable white boards in our conference room.

The ping pong room.

While I’m pleased you’ve moved to the new office, what I’d really like to see is more core development or at least news of new features, new games or plans for the future. That you’ve updated your website into Russian is irrelevant to most people who don’t speak that language. I’d rather know about what you’ve got upcoming. You only have two games to play on Quizlet and for a company trying to expand, your internet expansion is painfully slow.

Bob: I appreciate the sincere comment and I understand your frustration. A lot of our time recently has been spent towards things that will help Quizlet development happen more quickly in the future (trying to hire more programmers, getting a bigger office) as well as some backend upgrades of the servers to keep them fast while handling record amounts of traffic.

That said, I’m completely with you: new product development is what really matters and we’d like to really accelerate the pace of new features. We do have some really great stuff in development right now – a new multiplayer game and other ways to help you see/use your study data to study more effectively. We’ll try to do a better job at communicating product development, but I’d love to hear what types of things you think we should be working on.

Thanks for the comment Phil, I enjoy using Quizlet, but it seems there’s a new website coming out every week, and I’d like to see Quizlet stay at the top. Any games that encourage massive reptition in a fun way is fun. Perhaps a word tetris, with the words falling down, or space invaders, asteroids even where the goal is to shoot an asteroid with a word inside without getting smashed by the others! Just some ideas.

The office seems very appropriate for what the purpose of Quizlet is for the general public. I like that the ceiling is open, things are not polished – it doesn’t look like you are trying to be Google. I guess I’m trying to say it looks like Quizlet is “grounded”. Just a thought – if I was programming and I had to listen to ping pong and I wasn’t playing myself, I would go postal…

Do you get extra points for playing the ball off the ping pong table onto the conference room table? Or… is the ping pong table how disagreements are settled during meetings

Quizlet is way better than toast! It has been a great help in offering Spanish medical terminology to my students, and they really like it. They know that, unless specifically given other testable materials, if the material isn’t on Quizlet, it won’t be on the quiz or test. I’ve also taught my ESL students how to use Quizlet.

Hey love the office,
I would really like it if you guys allowed the space racer game to have different speed setting. Its a great study tool but some subjects make you write out longer phrases and its hard at that speed. Just a suggestion.

I am concerned about the page Quizlet just shared:

This opens up a lot of information to anyone who wants it as far as I can tell, including:
- username (in many cases, real name)
- age
- a picture (usually of the user)
- activity

I, personally, do not wish for my picture (if Quizlet has one), username, or age to be released without explicit consent. In addition, I would not be surprised if this page was to be updated, and released more information per user activity. What is scary is that it released the amount of information it does at a very frequent rate.

I mean, I went to a user’s profile, and even there I could not find a picture like the one I found in the feed. This feed is providing more information than a profile makes available. I do not want someone who is at least somewhat intelligent seeing this information, writing a script, and harvesting this information that Quizlet is so willingly and easily making available.

Quizlet, please do not make me as afraid of you as I am of Facebook.

I didn’t know they had that information. When I looked at that link about a month ago when this post first came out it was a lot different. All they had was you user name and what you were doing, I believe. You should really email “quizlet” instead of justing commenting.

And to be clear, I believe Quizlet has every right to see, to format into visualisations, to archive, and to monetise (without breaching privacy bounds) any information that was included in that feed, and more that Quizlet may aggregate (I believe I learned that word with Quizlet), but not to publicise information which is not included in a profile (that a user has given consent through settings or some other mechanism).
