- Organelles: the tiny peices inside a cell
- alleles: copies of a gene
- cell membrane: controls movement in and out of the cell
- cell wall: Only in plant cells- protects the plant cell, and gives it shape
- chloroplasts: contain chlorophyll in a plant cell
- cytoplasm: think fluid that holds all of the parts of the cell
- endoplasmic reticulum: transports materials in the cell
- genotype: when you find out which sets of genes you have from your parents
- heterozygous: 2 different alleles for a trait
- homeostasis: making the inside enviroment the same
- homozygous: two identical alleles for the same trait
- mitochondria: energy makers / powerhouses of the cell
- multicellular: made up of more than one cell
- nuclear membrane: encloses and protects the nucleus
- nucleus: control center of the cell
- organ systems: organs put together
- organs: tissues put together
- pedigree: tracing a gene back from generation to generation (a family tree of your genes)
- phenotype: the outside expression of a gene (what you look like)
- ribosomes: make the enzymes that produce proteins for the cell
- tissues: cells put together make up these
- unicellular: one cell
- vacuoles: contain fluid and coloring for the cell
