- desert: west central area of the mainland, Western China, Northern China and Southeastern Mongolia; not much vegetation due to lack of water; dinosaur fossils can be found in the Gobi Desert, which was the home for the great reptiles millions of years ago
- highland: Western China; forests, alpine tundra, mosses, lichens, shrubs, permafrost
- humid continental: Northeastern China, North Korea, South Korea, Northern Japan; coniferous forests, temperate grasslands, agriculture
- humid subtropical: Southeastern China, Southern South Korea, Southern Japan, Northern Taiwan; deciduous forests, coniferous trees; the trees in this area are disappearing becuase loggers are cutting them down (deforestation)
- semiarid: parts of the Mongolian Plateau; short grasses; animals are taken to graze here by nomads; otherwise, this area is left alone
- subarctic: a small part of Mongolia's and China's border with Russia; northern evergreen forest, mosses, lichens
- tropical wet: Hainan, southern tip of Taiwan, small strip of land along China' southeastern coast; tall dense forests of broadleaf trees
