- Alcohol: in the absence of oxygen, yeast and a few other microrganisms use alcoholic fermintation, forminig ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide as wastes
- Electron Transport: uses the highenergy electrons from the Krebs Cycle to convert ADP to ATP
- Fermintation: process by which cells release energy in the absence of oxygen
- Glycolysis: 1st step in releasing the energy of glucose, in which a molecule of glucose is broken into 2 molecules of pyruvic acid
- Lactic Acid: produced in muscles during rapid exercise when the body can't suppy enough oxygen to the tissues; lactic acid fremintation= pyruvic acid + NADH ~> lactic acid + NAD+
- The Krebs Cycle: pyruvic acid is broken down into carbon dioxide in a series of energy-extracting reactions
