- Anapest: unstressed, unstressed, stressed. Ex: i will walk, i will talk
- Dactyl: stressed, unstressed, unstressed. Ex: Love again, sing again
- double rhyme: a two syllable rhyme. Ex: daughter, water
- End rhyme: the two rhyming words are at the end of each line
- Iamb: unstressed, stressed. Ex: she went to town, to buy a gown
- Internal rhyme: when one or both of the rhyming words is located at the beginning or middle of the line
- Metrical lines: The amount of feet per line. Monometer, dimeter, trimeter, tetrameter, pentameter, hexameter, heptometer, octometer.
- Pure rhyme: the final sounds of the two words are exactly alike. Ex: funny, sunny
- Rhyme scheme: the pattern of rhymes that occur at the ends of the peom. Ex: AABB ABAB AABBA
- Single rhyme: a one syllable rhyme. Ex: night, sight
- Slant rhyme: Also called half rhyme. Occurs when the final sounds of the two words are similar, but not exactly alike. Ex: calm, long
- triple rhyme: a three syllable rhyme. Ex: glorious, victorious
- Trochee: stressed, unstressed. Ex: Double double, toil and trouble.
