- cytoplasm: The liquid within the cell
- enzymes: certain proteins that speed up the rate of chemical reaction in your body without themselves being changed or used up
- golgi body: receives, packages, and distrubutes proteins and other newly formed materials from the ER; also releases materials outside the cell
- lysosome: the organelle that digests food particles, wastes, cell parts, and foreign invaders
- mitochondria: rock-shaped stuctures - "powerhouse" of the cell they can convert energy into food molecules
- nucleus: control center of the cell that directs cell activities; contains chemical instructions that direct all the cell's activities and determines cell's characteristics
- ribosome: where the cells' proteins are produced
- rough endoplasmic reticulum: a region that is recognized by the grainy appearance of the ribosomes on their outer surface, where the cell's proteins are made
- semipermeable membrane: a membrane (as a cell membrane) that allows some molecule to pass through but not others
- smooth endoplasmic reticulum: synthesizes lipids, fatty acids, and steroids. enzymes detoxify bugs
- vacuole: a fluid filled sphere. Stores water and food for the cell
