Term Definition
place value the position of a digit in a number that is used to determine the value of the digit e.g. (5,612)
decimals are numbers between zero and one e.g .5 = five tenths
tenths place one place to the right of the decimal place (.3)
hundreths place two places to the right of the decimal (.030)
thousandths place three places to the right of the decimal place (.003)
prime number is a whole number greater then 1 that has exactly two factors, one and itself (7,11,29)
composite number is a whole number greater then 1 that has more then two factors (9,12,30)
prime factorization expressing a composite number as the product of prime numbers (a foctor tree can be used to find prime factorization)
factor trees diagrams used to find factors
