Who was Chandragupta? rulere who claimed the Mauryan throne after defeating the Nanda King. He divided the Mauryan Emprie into 4 provinces with each headed by a royal prince.
Who is Asoka? Chandragupta's grandson. He ruled for he brought the Mauryan Empire to its greatest height. King of the Mauryan Empire in 269 B.C. After a slaughter at Kalinga, his sorrow led him to study Buddhism - leading him to rule teaching "peace to all beings."
How was the Gupta Empire established? After 500 years of a weakend empire (as a result of Asoka's ruling), the turmoil resulted in the rising of this strong leader who established India's second empire
Who is Chandra Gupta? Leader of India's second empire - he came to power by marrying the daughter of an influential royal family. Known by the title "Great King of Kings."

What was the Theravada sect? a sect of Buddhists who held to Buddha's stricter, original teachings - sometimes called the Hinayana sect

What is Brahma? the god first represented in the Hindu Triad. He is the creator of the world and all living beings are said to have evolved from him
What is Vishnu? the second god of the Hindu triad. He is the preserver of the world and represents mercy and goodness. He is said to be the cosmic ocean nara, meaning water, which was the only thing in existence before the creation of the universe

What is Shiva? the destroyer of the world. He is the oldest and the youngest, he is the eternal youth as well as the infant. He is the source of fertility in all living beings. He has gentle as well as fierce forms. Shiva is the greatest of renouncers as well as the ideal lover. He destroyes evil and protects good. He bestows prosperity on worshipers although he is austere. He is omnipresent and resides in everyone as pure consciousness.
