secondary source description by a person usually not a the event: it is not as reliable
autobiography a book that someone writes abut his/her life
biography a book about a persons life written by someone else
essay a short nonfiction work about a particular topic
exposition a writing or speech that explains/informs something
diary a day by day account of a persons life: it is usually locked
memoir a book a person writes about a particular time in his or her life: it does NOT cover from birth to death
periodical a newspaper or magazine that is dictributed monthly, weekly, daily
interview a one on one conversation which questions are asked and answered
documentary a nonfiction film that uses primary and secondary sources
official document/record examples include a birth certificate, death certificate, marriage liscence, police reports, etc.
plagiarism taking someone elses words or ideas and making them your own
fact a statement that can be proven
opinion a statement which expresses someone's thoughts or ideas
paraphrasing rewritting or restating another persons ideas or thoughts into your own words
summarizing a shortnened version of a paraphrase; it retains the writers main idea & point of view but condenses the material
parenthetical citation sources are cited in an essay using a perticular style such as MLA also called "in text citation" or "internal documentation"
source reliability current author has credentials, etc
works cited/ bibliography a list of sources used in a nonfiction work & placed at the end of a paper
