Yalta Conference 1945, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin(the Big Three) met in the Soviet Union and decided that after Germany was defeated it would be divided and occupied by Allied troops. Soviet Union was to enter war against Japan. Which conference?
Dunkirk British, Belgian, and French troops were trapped by German forces at seaport of Dunkirk. They were transported across English Channel to England(between May 27-June 4).
Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bombs were dropped onto Japanese cities by the U.S. in August 1945 so the Japanese surrendered, ending World War 2.

Midway A naval battle that was a turning point in the war near the Pacific.
Normandy Location for Operation Overlord, the invasion of northwest France. It would be the largest invasion in history. On June 6, 1944 D-Day (a victory).
Danzig B/c Danzig had a large German population, Hitler claimed it for Germany. Hitler then intensified his campaign against Poland after securing Austria and Czechoslovakia.
Guadalcanal First U.S. invasion of Japanese-held territory(August 1942).
Island Hopping 1943 allies took the offensive in the Pacific. Forces from Australia and New Zealand assisted the U.S., driving the Japanese out of the Solomon Islands.
Collaborators People who assist the enemies. Just like Quisling who led the Norwegian Fascist Party in Norway. He is now a symbol of traitor.
El Alemein Turning point in war in North Africa. German General Rommel was defeated in Egypt(October 1942).
Luftwaffle Hitler's air force. Also had a radar force called RAF(Royal Air Force).
Memel City in Lithuania ceded to the Germans. Like Danzig it had a large German population w/ an active Nazi party.
Pearl Harbor December 7 1941, Japan did a surprise attack on the U.S. naval fleet resulting in the entry of the U.S. to enter the war.
Isolationism 1939, many Americans believed that Europe's wars were of no concern of the U.S. and stayed away from them. The leaders of this movement were responsible for keeping the U.S. otu of the League of Nations at the end of WW1.
German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact 1939 this agreement was between Germany and the soviets to partition Poland. It gave Hitler the chance to begin WW1 b/c he attacked even though he agreed not to in this pact.
North Africa The first allied offensive against the Axis powers came w/ the landings in North Africa.
Kellogg-Briand Pact 1928 in Paris, 62 nations signed an agreement that made war "illegal". This did not last long for a war did start in the late 1930's.
Lend-Lease Act U.S. Congress in early 1941 passed a law which authorized the president to supply war materials to Great Britain on credit. Winston Churchill appealed to the U.S.
V-E Day May 8, 1945, day of victory in Europe.
V-J Day September 2, 1945, Representatives of both sides signed the Japanese surrender document aboard the American battleship Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay.
