Interchangeable parts were important to the development of manufacturing. Interchangeable parts were parts that could be put into multiple machines because they were identical. This made machine repair easier. This opened the way for mass production and reduced the price of goods dramatically. How did interchangeable parts affect manufacturing? (essay possibility)
Agriculture greatly expanded during the Industrial Revolution. Many people still lived on farms, so not everyone went to work in mills and factories. The textile industries were developed in New England and increased the demand for cotton. Also the cotton gin made it easier to clean the cotton and there made the entire process quicker. Between 1790 and 1820, cotton production soared from 3,000 to 300,000 bales a year! How did the demand of cotton rise during the Industrial Revolution? (essay possibility)
Cities rapidly grew during the Industrial Revolution, due to factories and mills that were located near rivers, which is where the cities were. Cities had many advantages. One advantage was that there were many services such as libraries and museums. Also, there were a variety of jobs and better wages. However, many disadvantages arrived as well. Disease spread quickly because there were no sewers! For example, an epidemic in Philly killed thousands of peeps! Fire also was an issue.
