graphing +/- numbers the process of placing a point on a number line at its proper location
interest the amount paid or earned for the use of money
principal the amount of money deposited or invested
interest rate percent at which the interest is earned
base in a power, the # used as a factor
powers numbers expressed using exponents, e.g. 3/2 is read three to the second power or three squared
squared a number multiplied by itself, e.g. 4/2 is 4 x 4
cubed the product in which a number is a factor three times, e.g., 2 cubed is 8 or 2 x 2 x 2
percent proportion compares part of a quantity to the whole quantity using a percent
