why were castles considered a "status symbol"? as europe became more stable, there were less and fewer battles on land so if you had a castle it meant you paid money to make it a comfy place to live? kinda confusing so ask Crawfy. it was a sign of wealth and prestige.
What is a "status symbol"? something you have that suggests you are either rich or poor, fortunate or unfortunate, etc
