Term Definition
Attitude An attitude is an evaluation a person makes about themselves or others or objects and experiences
A – Affective component The feelings associated with the attitude – either positive or negative
B – Behavioural component How your actions express your feeling, eg: buying rap CD's, using environmental products
C – Cognitive component The belief we have toward an object, event, issue eg, music is uplifting, our environment needs to be maintained
Stereotype A stereotype is a collection of beliefs that we have about the people who belong to a certain group, regardless of the individual differences among members of that group. E.g. Stereotype of a Doctor
Cognitive dissonance When an inconsistency exists between our beliefs and attitudes and our behaviour.This can cause discomfort, and we may seek to change our behaviour or our attitude to reduce the psychological tension.
