Crust Outer layer of Earth composed of tectonic plates.
Mantle Middle semi-liquid layer of Earth composed of magma.
Core Center of Earth which heats the mantle and causes the magnetic fields of the Earth
Convection currents Circular currents in the mantle caused by the magma being heated by the core off the Earth.
Heat engine Convection currents in the mantle causing continents to move due to friction with moving mantle.
Tectonic plates Sections of the Earth's crust that move due to convection currents.
North American plate The portion of the Earth's crust that most of United States lies upon.
Pacific plate The portion of the Earth's crust that lies under most of the Pacific ocean and parts of western Calif.
